The effectiveness of using short stories in increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement

Abstract

This research focused on the effectiveness of using short stories in increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement in FLDI. The formulation of the problem in this thesis: was there a significant difference in students Reading comprehension achievement in FLDI between those who were taught using short stories and those using reading text materials? This study aimed to determine the effect of using short stories in increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement in FLDI. The population in this study was elementary students in FLDI. Samples were taken by population sampling. The number of samples was 15 students. This study used a pre-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design. The pre-test was given to determine the basic ability of students' reading skills and a post-test was given to determine the improvement of students' reading ability after being given treatment. The
results of this study indicate that there was a significant difference in students' Reading comprehension achievement in FLDI taught using short stories. The results of the data analysis show that post-test (82.7333) was higher than the pre-test (66.6667). This showed the effectiveness of using short stories in increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement in FLDI.
