THE TEACHER’S ROLES IN BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN THE AVAILABLE MATERIALS AND THE NEEDS IN ESP

Abstract

The aims of this research were to analyze: The first, teachers’ role in teaching English for a Specific Purpose in a vocational school for accounting class in SMK Mambaul Ulum; The second, the teachers’ materials implementation of ESP course for accounting class in the vocational school of SMK Mambaul Ulum. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. This research was conducted in the Eleventh grade of SMK Mambaul Ulums’ English teacher. The researcher explores the ESP course development in accounting class that covers: teachers’ roles in the classroom, teaching material, and learning activities. The result shows that: the first, teacher roles at the eleventh-grade accounting class in SMK Mambaul Ulumwere: explaining lessons related to accounting topics; guiding students to do oral activities in the classroom; encouraging or supporting students to be active in the  classroom, and giving corrective feedback to the students; the second, teacher design systematic course development of ESP before conducting teaching in the classroom by using CLT and gave project in form of oral production activities in form of role play of various situation in accounting activities
