Gemeinschaft: Journal of Social and Community Engagement is a scholarly journal dedicated to disseminating research, ideas, and practical experiences in the field of social and community engagement. The journal has been published since 2023 and continues to develop its editorial management, publication standards, scholarly network, and digital publishing infrastructure in accordance with the evolving standards of academic publishing.
The journal's development can be summarized as follows:
- 2023 – Gemeinschaft: Journal of Social and Community Engagement began its publication and established its online journal platform for disseminating scholarly works in the fields of community engagement, community empowerment, social development, and related interdisciplinary areas.
- 2024–2025 – The journal continued to develop its publication activities, editorial management, peer-review process, author guidelines, and online journal infrastructure. During this period, the journal expanded its scope and strengthened its commitment to scholarly quality, community-based research, social innovation, empowerment, and sustainable development.
- June 2026 – The journal's online publishing website experienced a cybersecurity incident involving malware. The incident affected the journal's website and its digital publishing environment. As a security and recovery measure, the journal management was required to restore and reconfigure the journal's online publishing system and rebuild a number of its settings and configurations from the beginning.
- 2026 – Following the cybersecurity incident, the editorial team began reconstructing and reconfiguring the journal's online publishing environment. This process included restoring the journal's website settings, editorial workflows, journal policies, reviewer and editorial information, submission configuration, and other publishing-system components. The reconstruction is being carried out to ensure that the journal's digital platform is properly organized, secure, and aligned with current scholarly publishing standards.
The cybersecurity incident in June 2026 did not change the journal's publication history or its commitment to scholarly communication. Rather, it became an important point in the journal's digital development, requiring the editorial team to undertake a comprehensive reconstruction of the journal's online publishing environment. The journal remains committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, accessibility, and continuity of its scholarly publishing activities.
