Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of a Nubdatul Bayan-Based Discussion Model as an approach to strengthening students’ comprehension of the classical Islamic text Fathul Qarib. The program was developed to address the challenges of classical Islamic text learning by integrating linguistic mastery (nahwu-sharaf), textual interpretation (murād), and collaborative learning practices. This study employed an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach consisting of Discovery, Dream, Design, Define, and Destiny stages. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, participatory discussions, and documentation involving students as primary informants and learning facilitators as supporting informants. Data were analyzed descriptively through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with validity ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the Nubdatul Bayan-Based Discussion Model contributes to the transformation of Fathul Qarib learning by optimizing existing educational assets, integrating linguistic competence with substantive fiqh understanding, and fostering a more active, participatory, communicative, and collaborative learning culture. The implication is that classical Islamic text learning can be strengthened through an asset-based and discussion-oriented approach that combines traditional scholarly methods with interactive learning strategies, enabling students to move beyond reading proficiency toward deeper conceptual and contextual comprehension.
